Smile Auth on all your devices
Everything syncs through your Smile account. Step-by-step guides for each device are in Smile Docs.
Windows
Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit
Smile Auth, passwords, Hosting, SmileMail and VPS in one app. Locks with Windows and updates itself (signed).
Download for WindowsHow to install
- Run the installer - no admin rights needed.
- If Windows says "Windows protected your PC" (the app is new): More info → Run anyway.
- Sign in with your Smile account.
Android
Android 9 or newer
Fills logins, 2FA codes and passkeys in other apps and browsers. Fingerprint unlock. Updates itself (signed).
Download for AndroidHow to install
- Open this page on your phone and tap Download for Android.
- Open the file. Allow installing apps from your browser once, then tap Install.
- Sign in. To fill logins and passkeys in other apps, turn them on in Smile's Settings.
iPhone & iPad
iOS 16 or newer
The same app as Android. Not in the App Store - install it on your iPhone with KSign (no computer), and get new versions there in a tap.
How to install with KSign (on your iPhone)
- Have KSign on your iPhone with a signing certificate imported - your own Apple Developer certificate, or one from someone you trust.
- Tap Add Smile to KSign above. (Or in KSign: Sources → + and paste
https://auth.smilecorp.co.uk/downloads/ios/source.json.) - In KSign open Smile → Get, then Sign and Install. Open Smile and sign in.
- New versions show up in Smile's source in KSign - and Smile's Settings → About → Get it sends them straight to KSign. Sign and install; your vault is kept.
- To fill passwords in other apps: Settings → General → AutoFill & Passwords → AutoFill from → Smile (only if the signing certificate allows AutoFill).
Other ways: with a computer (Sideloadly) or another signer
- The .ipa button above is the app file itself - for any signer (KSign, Feather, ESign, Scarlet, Sideloadly, AltStore).
- Sideloadly (Windows PC or Mac,
sideloadly.io): on Windows also install iTunes and iCloud from apple.com. Plug in your iPhone, drag the.ipain, type your Apple ID and click Start. - Then on the iPhone: Settings → Privacy & Security → Developer Mode on (it restarts), and Settings → General → VPN & Device Management → your Apple ID → Trust.
- With a free Apple ID the app stops opening after 7 days - click Start in Sideloadly again (your vault is kept).
Linux & ChromeOS Beta
64-bit PCs and Chromebooks
The Windows app as an AppImage - nothing to install. On Ubuntu, Debian or Mint you can install the .deb instead. Both update themselves (signed).
How to install
- .deb: double-click it to open it in Software, or run
sudo apt install ./smile_*_amd64.deb. Smile shows up in your apps. - AppImage: right-click it → Properties → Allow executing as a program (or
chmod +x Smile-*.AppImage), then open it. - To stay signed in you need a keyring (GNOME Keyring or KWallet). Without one Smile keeps nothing on disk.
- Ubuntu 24.04+: if it doesn't open, let Smile use its security sandbox:
printf 'abi <abi/4.0>, include <tunables/global> profile smile /tmp/.mount_Smile*/usr/lib/smile/smile flags=(unconfined) { userns, } ' | sudo tee /etc/apparmor.d/smile-app sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/smile-app
Runs in your Chromebook's Linux (the AppImage can't - ChromeOS has no FUSE). Turn Linux on once, then install the .deb.
How to install
- Turn on Linux: Settings → About ChromeOS → Developers → Linux development environment → Set up (a few minutes, once). School and work Chromebooks may not allow it.
- Open Files, find the
.debin Downloads, double-click it and press Install. - Open Smile from the launcher's Linux apps folder. Most Chromebooks are Intel or AMD - pick ARM Chromebook only if Settings → About ChromeOS → Additional details mentions ARM, MediaTek or Snapdragon.
Chrome extension
Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera
A Smile icon in login boxes with a "Log in as..." list, 2FA codes, passkeys and QR scanning. From the Chrome Web Store - it updates itself.
Add to Chrome Download the .zipHow to install
- Press Add to Chrome above, then Add to Chrome on the store page.
- Edge: on the store page choose Allow extensions from other stores first. Brave works as it is. Opera: add the Install Chrome Extensions add-on first.
- Pin Smile Auth from the puzzle-piece menu, click it and sign in.
Install it by hand (without the store)
- Download the extension (.zip) and unzip it into a folder you'll keep.
- Open
chrome://extensions(oredge://extensions) and turn on Developer mode. - Load unpacked → pick the folder. A copy installed this way doesn't update itself.
